Once in the animal kingdom, there was so much peace, love, and happiness among the animals.
King Lion was in need of a very good cook. At that time, Pig was the best cook in the whole of the animal kingdom.
King Lion said, “I need an animal that can cook me different delicacies whenever I want them. I am tired of eating the same kind of food again and again. I want to taste something different.”
One day, King Lion called for a contest among all the good cooks in the animal kingdom. He said any animal that wins the contest will become the royal cook.
All the good cooks in the animal kingdom began to prepare for this contest. Even the animals who were not good cooks were determined to learn how to cook special delicacies so that they can please king Lion.
The day came at last. The day all the animals were waiting for. The day the royal cook will be chosen. Horse said to goat, “Pig will win this contest. He is the best and most experienced cook in this kingdom.”
Goat replied, “some other animals may have been training in secret so that they can beat Pig in the contest. Friend, we can't be sure until the contest is over.”
The whole palace was filled with noise as animals began to cheer their own candidates to encourage them and increase their morale. Some were cheering Pig, “Pig, you are best! Pig, you are the best! Pig, you are the best!”
Some other animals were cheering Giraffe, “Giraffe, you can do it! Giraffe, you can do it! Giraffe, you can do it!”
As Lion stood to address the crowd, all the animals reduced their voices so that they could hear what he had to say very clearly.
King Lion said, “This is the day we have all been waiting for. Particularly, this is the day I have been waiting for. The day I will choose my cook who will cook me many delicacies. Now, let the contest begin.”
All the good cooks as well as the other animals in the kingdom began to cook as fast as they could, but patiently. They wanted to impress king Lion by all means. They made different delicacies that would cause the mouth of any animal to water. King Lion himself was really eager to know the winner.
At the end of the contest, Lion assigned different animals to judge who the best cook is. Pig emerged the winner of the contest. His food tasted very great. King Lion was deeply satisfied.
But just as he was being celebrated by the other animals, he ran out and rolled himself in the mud. When King Lion saw this, he was displeased. He declared that Pig would no longer be his royal cook because of his dirty habit. Then he appointed Giraffe in place of a pig.
Moral lesson: Our skills can bring us a good fortune but the only good character can help us keep it
